The port is owned by the Govt. of Kerala in joint venture with M/s. Adani Vizhinjam Port Pvt. Ltd. This port is being aimed to cater largest mother vessels with the capacity of 18000 TEU and consists of 2000 meters of container berth with a draught of 24 meters depth and it is only 10 nautical miles from the International Shipping Lane. The commencement of this project shall boost the import export of the region drastically by 2020. Procurement of land, building and yard in vizhinjam area is economically considered as the cheapest and easily available when compared to be other part of the world.
